I want to reach more teens in my community.
As an advocate working with organizations and individuals in the community, you have probably wondered what you could do to help more young people understand the facts about dating violence. Sharing this program with teachers is a great way for you to do that. While you can continue to serve as a resource to the schools, you can provide teachers with a program they can understand and use in their classroom.
Here's What You Can Do is a school-based program focusing on helping students recognize and make healthy decisions about dating relationships. It provides teachers with a knowledge base about teen sexual assault and dating violence, detailed lesson plans, academic-based problems and other activities to do with their students. The program gives teachers background information and strategies to build their confidence to teach, discuss and work with their students on this important topic.
Some highlights of the program include:
- Extensive foundation information explaining the concepts that support healthy relationships for teens
- Research that explains why the classroom is a good environment for learning about this important topic
- Lessons appropriate for middle school, high school and exceptional students that focus on applying knowledge and skills to real-world situations
- Reading, math and writing questions formatted as FCAT practice items to reinforce concepts and serve as topics for discussion
- Ideas for working with students in the classroom to help them evaluate dating relationships for themselves and their friends
